Diwali Cards

Cards are specially made by local artists who specialize in painting on raw-silk and hand engraved palm leaves. These paintings are incorporated into greetings cards. Inside: "With Best Wishes for a Happy Diwali and a Prosperous New Year". Many designs/colors available. Sets of 10 are available from the Berkeley chapter for $10 + $2 (shipping).

Proceeds from the cards go to "The KhelaGhar Program" in Orissa, instituted in the early 70s to assist the children and women of the underpriviledged section of the society, residing in the slums of Bhubaneswar. The cards are made by the local artists and preserves this art form which is an essential part of the culture and heritage of the State of Orissa.

Non-formal education given to children from teh ages of 3 to 15 years, who were forced to drop out of schools for socio-economic reasons. Training Programs to imporve vocational capabilities. Mothers' program on general awareness, nutrition and family planning. General clinic for children/mothers including free medical dispensation.
