About myself |
|
Currently, I am a chemical biology doctoral student at the
University of Michigan. Education has always played a vital role in my
life. Growing up, my parents instilled a discipline in me to take my
education very seriously. I’ve always been slightly athletic, playing
soccer since I was five, and running since I was eleven, but academics were
never compromised. I strive to learn all that I can (and as fast as I
possibly can). My doctoral studies give me a chance to advance my
knowledge so that I can help develop understandings and make an impact in
several areas of science. Eventually, I want to run a lab of my own at a
major university here in the US so that I can teach the people who will
be doing the exact thing I am doing right now, which has already made
a huge impact in my life, and I'm loving every minute of it.

Why am I running a marathon? |
|
I have always been a believer of using all available resources to
maximal capacity. To say that same thing in easier terms means simply
because I can…or at least I think I can. Having the ability to do
things (such as running a marathon) that other people cannot is
something that I never want to take for granted. I know the task is not
going to be easy, but with training I know I can do it. Paralleled to
my education, running a marathon is something that I know, with enough
hard work, I will be able to do. Running a marathon and raising money
for every mile traveled on foot means I will be helping children who
never knew that education might be an option.
So why Asha?
Running for ASHA gives me the opportunity to extend my arms
out to lengths I never imagined I could. Education played such a large
role in my life and still does. To be able to raise money for ASHA means
to give the gift of education to underprivileged children in India. My
hope is that this can make an impact in someone else's life around
the globe in a similar way that education continues to change my life. I
know that life is different for every person in the world, but one
global parallel is struggle. No matter where you are, you will always
encounter struggles some more life threatening than others, but to truly
live, you must survive. Raising money for ASHA gives me the chance to
alleviate struggles for at least one underprivileged person, and I
cannot ask for anything more.
Please help me and others support this important cause.
Thank you,
Heather
