Asha-Athens Meeting Minutes 4-24-08 Attendees: Sara, Prachi, Yash, Foram, Drishti, Shruti, Abhyuday, Sethu, Leena ------------ Nartan Financials - Abhyuday and Yash will figure out the details of each bunch - donations, admin pool, food etc. next week sometime when they meet. Receipts - Abhyuday, how do we want to do it? We need the receipts to go with the thankyou cards which we should send out sometime soon. DVD sales - Shruti, can you send out an announcement on the ISA listserve that Nartan DVDs are on sale for $5. Yash will send you a draft of what he sent on the community listserve. Pictures - Yash to contact Krishna to hopefully get pictures from Nartan for the magazine and just to have for our own records. Magazine - To be released late June (soon before WAH starts, which July 4th) Sara to collect material :) Prachi to help her design it. Foram Asher is replacing Prachi Singh as our new Chapter Coordinator!! Sara and Foram will be co-chapter coordinators for this upcoming year. Abhyuday updated us on financials - last year's and this year's - inflow and outflow - and how much we can send to SSS right now. As of now, in this installment we can send $4500 to SSS. Though, we must make them aware of our situation that we will be working on raising $5500 between now and December, and this is how much we have been able to raise...just to give them a heads up so that they aren't left unpleasantly surprised if we are not able to fulfill our commitment by the end of this year. Considered other option of raising enough money to attain our goal -- have another chapter involved, if possible? Have the community more involved. Approach them more persistently and recruit, possibly, regular donors. Community infiltrators! - Yash, Sethu, Leena Temples - whoever goes to temples or any religious places regularly, asking people there would be a very good idea since they would be of the giving outlook. Invite ISA's president - Vijay - to some of our meetings (in fact, I think we should go ahead and do all our meetings from now on in SLC rooms -- without AV equipment!! ) to have ISA get involved with Asha. Project Options to Explore - Concession Stand - Sanford Stadium - Foram Cricket Tournament - Yash/Sethu Sorority/Fraternity - Anyone/Everyone who knows any sororities or frats. We need to approach as many as we can so that we can possibly convice at least one to make us their chosen philanthropy for next year. Swayamvar - maybe UGA-ISL affiliation? Pros - publicity on campus, campus reservation, funding $200ish, exposure to volunteers/intl students (intl orientation, coffee hour) Cons - not as much funding as any other organization, strict policies which hamper our efforts, eg, ticket sale only at Tate, who it's done by, whom it goes thru..etc.., how many people actually come from those ads on campus, target audience?, ... LIGHT BULB IDEA! - Asha-Athens and Asha-UGA separate.... Asha-UGA will be a student organization at UGA and under ISL. Asha-UGA will organize smaller events like the badminton tournament, bake sale, anything else we think of and fulfill what's expected out of any campus org--spreading the culture, create awareness, facilitate involvement of students etc at Coffee Hour, World Fest, etc. Asha-Athens will be a separate organization under the bigger umbrella...Asha for Education. It will be registered with the state and will have nothing to do with UGA. Asha-Athens will organize bigger event(s) like the dance concert. Need to think of any possible loopholes in this idea. Otherwise, sounds like the golden median. End: 7:47
