As you may remember me saying that I am training for Atlanta Marathon this year, i think this is the time when i can declare that i am definitely running it. This race will take place on Thanksgiving day - Nov 23 2006. Last year when i started training for it i suffered some shin injuries which prevented me from running anymore for the next 6 months. This time I had the opportunity to run with the voluntary organization ASHA (hope) who provided me coaches and other valuable information that would be necessary to keep up the effort. Just as I started a little more than a month ago the pain came back and the doctors suggested me to forget about it. But it was just too difficult for me to forget about it and I decided to try it until my legs said enough ! Now you must be thinking this is crazy... do I really need to do this?
Well this may be crazy, but there is a reason. The main aim of the marathon is to raise $1000 towards the education of unerprivilaged children in India through ASHA (www.ashanet.org). If you might know I have been involved in a community service in Atlanta with an organization called HOPE (Asha) for about more than a couple years. we go out and teach inner city children who, due to their poor backgrounds, do not get ample opportunity to go to schools or any motivation for education. I got involved through an honor society that i am a part of now. While interacting with kids there i realized how important and effective this would be if I did it in India. but how could i while i was here? I looked for various so called "non-profits" around this area but never was convinced. Finally when i found this opportunity i did not want to let it go. In this effort of mine I will be running a marathon and raising $1000 for the team ASHA. For this I request you to contribute as much as you can.
So far I have been successful in increasing my miles to 20. So far the experience has been good. The compromise i had to make was to run slow to reduce the impact on my legs and this has been very successful. At this stage i really think i can be sure that i'll be running this race and thats why I am now asking you to help me in this fund raising effort. Any amount that you are comfortable with will do and will be great help to those poor children. It will keep me motivated as well.
So please go ahead and make that impact now !
Note: Please let me know whenever you make a donation so that i can update my fundraising log
