Flash News!
I ran the Atlanta Half Marathon yesterday in 2:02:57(chip time: 2:00:56), which comes out be about 9.38(using chip time: 9.23) minutes per mile, well below my target pace of 10 min/mile. The run was great, with a record number of about 7500 people running the half marathon with the weather being close to perfect for this time of the year in Atlanta. Thank you all for supporting me and most important of all, contributing generously for this great cause. Your donation to Asha for Education will help many children India to have access to a very fundamental need: Education
And surely, we will not stop here:). This page will be up till the end of the year, so if you would like to donate, please click on the Donate button above.
Thank you once again!
I am a graduate student at Georgia Tech and in my spare time I indulge in outdoor activities(Tennis, biking, running), volunteer for Asha and make an attempt to learn to play the violin.
My Running
Running long distances was always something I wanted to do, but I never attempted anything more than 4 miles before. And what better to motivate myself to do it than to run the Atlanta Half Marathon to raise money for Asha.
Why Asha?
Many of us have been fortunate to have had a privileged upbringing and a good education, a main reason why we find ourselves where we are today. For those that were not so fortunate, the lack of education may mean a life of poverty. Asha for Education provides hope for children in India who otherwise may not be able to obtain an education by sponsoring projects targeted towards their schooling needs and I am running to raise funds for them. Asha has no administrative overheads and all money raised is directed towards the projects. I am requesting you to make a donation towards this cause and your generous contribution will go a long way in helping a child to secure his or her future.

Updates
Nov 20: All the training and hard work is done and now rest up and get ready to race! Just 3 more days....
Nov 4: Ran 12 miles today and 30 miles for the week! And all within my target of 10 min/mile. My body feels good and from now on the mileage ramps down so as to recover by race day.
Nov 1: With just 3 more weeks to go, upto now I am keeping up with the training and touchwood, I have been keeping reasonably injury-free so far. I am keeping to my target of running at 10 minutes a mile (approximately) as well. My maximum distance so far has been 10 miles and this weekend, Nov 4, I am scheduled to run 12 miles in Buckhead, which is a tough course with quite a few hills.
Running History
I used to run fairly regularly, but only short distances, anywhere from 2-4 miles at a time. In recent times, my left knee has been an unwilling partner and my running has suffered, but I hope running for Asha will give me the motivation to pull off the ambitious 13.1 mile run. |
