Support-a-Project (SaP)
Support-a-Project (SaP) is a special program initiated by Asha Atlanta to channelize funds to certain featured projects.
These are carefully selected projects that have attracted a lot of interest from patrons, and many have expressed interest in supporting them year after year. Asha Atlanta, on its part is closely associated with these projects to make sure the projects continue to meet Asha’s qualification criteria, and to ensure smooth flow of communication between patrons and the beneficiary project
How is it different from other Projects supported by the Chapter?
Asha Atlanta organizes fund raising events every year, like participation in the Atlanta Marathon, where funds collected are not earmarked for any specific project initially when donations are received. A Project Selection Committee then decides the distribution of these funds to various candidate projects that seek funding, considering various factors like the project qualifications, prior funding history, the reason funding is requested and so on. Funds are then distributed to selected projects as per these allocations. This forms the main fund raising activity in line with all other Asha Chapters.
In contrast, projects under the Support-a-Project program, are funded by patrons with specific intention of donating to a particular project. This program therefore creates a special fund raising channel for projects that evoke enthusiastic response from a number of individual donors.

In a broad sense, sub-programs are “sponsorship items” towards which donations can be directed.
Most SaP patrons wish to donate year after year, and also prefer that their donation is utilized toward a specific cause within a project’s activities. Some prefer to sponsor a child, some prefer to sponsor a teacher’s salary, some like to sponsor special training imparted to children, like classical music training or athletics training. If the SaP project has the setup and processes in place to accept donations towards such specific causes, or if the project seeks sponsorships for specific items year after year, then we include the corresponding subprograms under that project.
