Meeting Minutes: 04/06/08

Attendees: Sree, Lalit, Sais, Gaurav, Sharanya, Ganesh, Abhinav, Praveen, Murali, ArvindV, Vinod.

[I] General Funds disbursal discussion – ArvindV

1. How do we know which project fits which theme?

2. If theme B is only 2 years, then does it only cater to one-time reqs?

3. Is there a cap on how much a chapter can dip into these funds?

4. Is there a max on each project?

5. Can we propose emergency relief projects for this pool?

6. How long will the process of approving a project be?

7. How do you make the focus group be more representative? Will the focus group members necessarily be from different chapters?

8. How long will the focus group membership last? How choose?

9. Why not just divide between all chapters by a simple division?

[II] Event Discussion – Sais

- Organize a volleyball tournament -- Murali/Kishore.

Volleyball league will take care of providing the teams etc.

Easier to use the league.

Not restricted to an India audience.

Can also target more amateur-ish players. And pre-summer is a good time to have this. We can have this maybe in May.

Abhinav will help Murali organize it.

Maybe rent out Zilker courts.

-Movie screening. Kishore knows movie distributors, so can screen
legally.

-A family event.

-A hypnosis event?

-Idea is that we should have events which showcase our ideals and
our projects.

-We should also tap into UT funds for organizing and such.

-Sais volunteered to work on the talent show for the Fall.

Sais to present an overview of what is involved at the next meeting. Also to
form a document and gather all learnings in one place.

-For sake of wider reach etc., a short-film festival.

We give folks a theme and get folks to shoot movies on this.

-A children's theatre festival -- showcase over a weekend of dramas. Could be at high school level.

-Possibly stagger events over time.

-We also have to start organizing the marathon program.

-We will have a series of presentations on how this will be organized:

a)Sais on Show of Hope

b)Murali/Abhinav on Volleyball tournament

c)Sharanya/Charanya/Mohit/Savitha/Praveen on Marathon progam

-Ganesh/Abhinav to help with Boeing grants with Arvind.

[III] Pragyala update – Ankur

Austin has approved $2k towards the storm damage. Need about $5k.
Plan is to send by end of the month. Currently other chapters looking
to fund the rest. Ankur is also receiving donations for this through his
marathon channel.

Ankur to relocate to Dallas with his job. But he'll continue to work with Pragyalaya and with Asha Austin.

[IV]Chapter nominates Vinod for fellowship coordinator in the upcoming
Ashawide elections.
