Asha meeting.
 
Parivaar, Calcutta:
- We went through the general presentation of Parivaar.
Vinayak early 2004 got out from IIMK and started Parivaar. Work with
NGOs in Calcutta
and identifies children at risk and take them into Parivaar. Children
age between
4-11: 57 girls , 53 boys in the facility.
 
Located in Biburhat outside Calcutta.
 
Proper home environment for the home for the children and they will go
to school and
get them the confidence. Will probably be there for 10-12 yrs.
 
Vinayak background, Bhopal, MP: Inspired by Vivekananda. Board has
three profs, secy to the
WB ministery and involvement through them.
 
Many of the children suffer from malnutrition and physical and
physoloical ailments due
to years of abuse. The children enjoy the simple things of life.
Rehabilitation is more
than one environment to another and bring them back to the society
with love and care.
The best medicine for their rehabilitation is love care and trust.
 
7-8 ppl are ayaas who are staying at Parivaar and taking care of the
kids. Cini Asha,
Sanlap, Tommrow's foundation, Semiritan Health Mission Hawra orgs
prepare for the child.
 
Case sheet for every child. No more interaction with the parent from there.
 
Q: Is the above legal? In TN the orgs have to allow meeting the child
once in 6 months.
A: Will find out.
 
They go to 2 local schools.
 
They have a doctor on call for each of the kids and in the begining
they had trauma and
nighmares. However, it is generall ok.
 
Emphasis on total rehablitation.
 
Q: Why do they not run a school themselves?
A: Resources are a crunch at the moment to run a school. Other reason
is that we want to go
to a normal school. They go to a private school.
 
 
They also do yoga, excursins to the zoo (students from the IIMs help
as vols for this),
dancing.
 
After school education, tutorship 6-7 teachers help them with that.
Pre-school kind of
exercise that is provided as assistance. The children write the
entrerance exams and get
into the 6 grade through schools.
 
Q: Does anyone teach them dancing.
A: It's only the people there. They could do it in summer when there
is no school.
 
Q: If it is an agricultural land are there restrictions on how much we
can build in this
area?
 
Q: 15 small dorms 12 kids per dorm and 3-1/2 lakhs per drm. Plan to
grow 250 kids.
Each dorm is complete in itself.
 
Q: Why are there 12 children per group?
 
Education can be many kinds not just the bookish knowledge.
 
Q: What are the current goals of the project.
A: First idea was to give them a home. Get a skill or go to college.
Only first year of
operation and we will know where you go.
 
Q: Age restriction to get kids into Parivaar.
 
Q: Is Parivaar the legal gaurdian of the kids.

Vibha approved 10K which is gonna go every quarter.Have them do 2 1/2
yearly thing
so that they can get some money to support them for 4 months.

Need to priortize what is needed urgently and what can be put off.
 
Wanna support 100 children. 30 new students. 2 more new teachers.

Will be good to know for Asha educational purpose as well as share knowledge.

If they get 10K from Asha and Vibha will everything be taken care of?
If not they need to priotrtize. Murli feels they may not expand to 100
children,
 
Asha need to support 5.9K(5814$) $ for the first 6 months and then from
there on we would need 3.6K$ per six months.
 
 
Asha Austin would support first 6 months and hthen probably pass it on to
NYC/NJ.
