Deepti Jois
I started running from September 2009
Over the last one year of running, I have
found the mental and physical strength to do what I want to do and be who I
want to be. Every time I push myself through pain and fatigue to finish a long
run, I understand how close running is to life, how important it is to not
give up when life throws its challenges at me and how important it is to put
myself in situations which may be uncomfortable but which will eventually take
me where I want to go. I love running because it allows me connect with
myself. I love running because, by doing so, I'm trying to please nobody but
myself!

When I discovered the possibility of raising
funds through running, I realised that this was a great way to make my
contribution. I'm a teacher myself and I strongly believe that a good teacher
and a good education can make a big difference in a child's life. It is with
that thought in mind, I have decided to raise funds for Asha for Education
- a zero-overhead, volunteer-driven organization that works on education
in India with the belief that education is a critical requisite for
socio-economic change.
So far, I have trained for and ran 12.5 km at
Bangalore Ultra Marathon 2010, 21km at Auroville Marathon 2011 and 10km at the
TCS World 10k 2011.
I'm training to run 21km at the Kaveri Trail Marathon, this September. I will also be attempting to run
25km at the Bangalore Ultra
Marathon 2011 in November. I keep a log of all my runs
on http://www.dailymile.com/people/DeeptiJ.
My goal is to raise Rs. 500/km for Asha for
Education.
