21 Apr 2011 Conference Call for discussion of WAH proposal for Children's Resource Center (CRC) of Timbaktu Collective Attendees: Anita, Vijay, Santhosh, Sanjeev, Ranjini Guest : Satish (Timbaktu Collective) We discussed the site visit of Vijay. One aspect was the signs of dental fluorosis. Santhosh mentioned the possibility of organizing a health camp with the support of the runners who are doctors in Oct. If we can figure out other ways to volunteer at Timbaktu too we can do a two day trip and organize a run on the second day. Santhosh mentioned to Satish that for the camp it is useful to give some idea of the general health issues that children might have faced. This would help the doctors to come prepared with the appropriate supplies free of cost e.g. vitamin supplements, even technicians. He gave examples of the schools (Ananya, Sita school) where this was done before - e.g. fluorosis, anemia, adolescent girls having cramps, etc. Action Item 1) Satish suggested that he will send this information and also let us know regarding the possibility of Timbaktu hosting Team Asha for a run. There was a question regarding the site visit mentioning that the youth girl at the tailoring center may not be part of the fellowships given by Asha. Sanjeev and Satish clarified that all the youth girls (after 10th, now 8) are part of the program (Kumaris) who are at the CRC. Timbaktu separately runs a weaving center near Timbaktu office that Asha-Blr has not been supporting. Action Item 2) Correct the site visit report for this information - Done. Sanjeev asked about the Kumaris supported by the program in the previous yr and if the increase in the number from 6-8 were all new girls or any were able to continue this year. Satish clarified that 5 girls are continuing and 3 more joining as they expand the program this year. Sanjeev asked about the possibility of tracking the sales from CRC and offsetting it toward the purchase of arts and crafts material of the fellowships of the Kumaris rather than putting it into the general pool of Timbaktu educational projects. Satish replied that the possibility is already being explored this year. *Satish drops off the call Ranjini wanted to know how WAH's support for only one year would work for CRC. We will need to continue to fund for CRC year-to-year as we have in the past. However, as we are taking up much more financial responsibility with SAC for TC this year it is another avenue to find support for our projects this year. Santhosh wanted to clarify that the SAC program for Timbaktu Badi is separate from the continued support for CRC. We also spoke of the closure of Prakruti Badi. We talked about how this should hopefully not effect the SAC program and we can start with supporting the residential children at the school and try to split the additional expenses in TB also being accessible to day scholars. Action Item 3) Sanjeev to discuss with Timbaktu to attempt to split finances to some extent based on number of day scholars and residential children using the school. For treasury purposes, Santhosh wanted to understand if the support was based of Jan-Dec year or financial year. The support requested is for financial year 1 Apr 11 - 31 Mar 12. Perhaps, it's not good to wait till later in the year to send funds. We can send some funds now and based on how much funds are raised by WAH (sent in mid-Nov) we can send another installment to cover any shortfall. Vote: Is budget approved for support by WAH? Yes - 5, No - 0, Abstain - 0.
