For Education

About Asha

Asha-Bangalore is a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven, zero-overhead organization dedicated to socio-economic change in India. We support education of underprivileged children and initiatives that help empower communities as a whole. We do this by working with our project partners to identify areas where Asha can help – this can take the form of financial support or volunteering our time and resource.

We are a non-hierarchical organization and everyone who is interested in contributing towards the underprivileged is welcome to participate in our activities and decisions as equals. Our volunteers chip in to cover the overhead and administrative costs so that the donations can be fully utilized to support our projects. Our interpretation of education is broader than the strict sense of literacy and we work on skills that help children and individuals stand on their own feet and earn a livelihood as well as lead a wholesome life. Our projects also include fellowships for social workers to help them continue their service to society. We currently support 6 projects in India. We also provide a base for volunteers to learn about social issues and take steps to address them through the projects we work with. We raise funds through a variety of ways - marathon program, monthly donations and calendar sales.

Team Asha
The 'Team Asha' marathon program is the biggest fundraiser for Asha Bangalore. Asha provides a comprehensive training program to help runners achieve their running goals, while runners learn more about Asha's efforts and raise funds for them. We have been able to grow immensely both in terms of number of projects and amount disbursed since the advent of the marathon program.

About 40 runners from different walks of life along with 16 children from Asha supported efforts ran the Auroville marathon this year. The 40 runners did well at the races and almost all of them completed their targets successfully. We fundraised more than 6 Lakhs through our marathon program last year. We also ventured into new territory by interacting with the grassroots efforts by training children for running long distances. We look forward to continue supporting the projects from last year and new ones as well from the current marathon program.
