Madivala School - udate on software installation and training
The school was closed for the dasara holidays and re-opened last week. We've completed
installation of Edubuntu on 8 of the 10 systems and will start off with these. It has
all the educational software we would need. We are just missing some cables connecting
the cpu and the monitors. Venkat is trying to get them from Philips.
I had a demo session of the software with all the teachers this morning. It was well
received. One thing we have going for us in the school is the cooperation of the HM and
teachers. We can start training sessions for the teachers and children by this weekend.
We are looking into some options for getting support for buying furniture (tables and
stools/chairs)..If that doesnt materialize in the next few days, we will just go ahead and
buy them (I have quotes for tables in the Rs. 1400- Rs. 2000 range, of which we'd need
eight, and iron stools costing abt Rs. 120 each).
best,
srikanth

Chandranagar School - clean the school grounds
Siva, Pawan, Ram, Arathi and I went to the school at 9 on Saturday. We used brooms and
digging equipment to get out small and large stones and pieces of glass, they've been
dumped near the road and hopefully will be cleared by the BMC.
After working on this for an hour, large portions of the ground remained untouched, so
we plan to spend a part of every visit helping the children clear the stones.
Also, people have been entering the school at night and creating a mess outside the
classrooms, so we visited the Kumaraswamy layour police station and lodged a complaint.
We were told that the police would include the school in its nightly patrols, a book has
been placed in the school where the policeman will sign when he inspects the school.
We'll be resuming our sessions at the school this Saturday (since the following saturday
is diwali), so I'll send out an email midweek for those who want to join us.
Cheers,
Ira
