Project WHY, New Delhi(India)
Project WHY is a New Dehli (India) based non-profit organisation engaged in education support and life skill
enhancement of slum children and their families. Their activities include the running of early-education centres
for pre-school children, after-school supplementary learning centres for children in Classes I-XII, and a day-care
centre for children with special needs.
In addition to providing educational support to over 600 children, the organization reaches out to some of the most
vulnerable souls of society - children from dysfunctional or abusive families, abandoned children, or those with physical
or mental challenges, who would not otherwise have any other safe-haven and could easily be at risk for exploitation.
A few such children are now in foster care at one of Project WHY's centres and are in need of full financial support in
order to have their educational and other basic needs met. These are the children we hope to support through the Asha
Canada Support-a-Child program. The total cost of education and living expenses for one child is estimated at $1500 (Rs.60,000)
per year. At a sponsorship amount of $25/month/sponsor, we need the support of at least 5 sponsors to cover one child's need.
The sponsorship will go towards basic needs of food, shelter, education (tuition, books, uniforms) and healthcare of the sponsored children.
Listed below are the children in our Support-a-Child program:
Babli, Age 12, Class III
Vicky, Age 9, Class I
Nikhil, Age 8, Class I
Aditya, Age 6, Kindergarten
