Asha for Education, Central New Jersey (Asha-CNJ), presents a unique opportunity to train for long distance running (no experience needed!), run a marathon with Team Asha, and contribute towards basic education needs in India, all with only six months of training and commitment! If you have ever been in awe of a marathon runner but thought you would never be able to do it, then read on . . .

Team Asha's marathon training program is an innovative fundraiser initiated in 2000. Participants experience the unique challenge and inspiration of training for and running a marathon, while raising funds for basic education in India-- a true opportunity for tremendous personal accomplishment and a tangible contribution to the cause.

More than 300 of Team Asha's runners and walkers have collectively raised over $830,000 for Asha projects over the past five years! Last year, over fifty CNJ runners ran the Philadelphia marathon and the Jersey Shore half-marathon raising a total of over $20000! This year Asha-CNJ introduces long distance training programs (all beginning early June) tailored to Individual expectations for 4 different marathons:

Nov 22nd:  Philadelphia Marathon
Nov 1nd:  New York City Marathon (participation based on lottery)
Oct 4th:  Jersey Shore Half-Marathon (Sandy Hook, NJ)
Nov 22nd:  Philadelphia Half Marathon
Oct 4th:  Jersey Shore 5k (Sandy Hook, NJ)
Nov 22nd:  Philadelphia Rothman Institute 8k

Participants will undergo a professional training program under the guidance of seasoned coaches, themselves accomplished runners. Apart from the training, Asha-CNJ will facilitate group runs, ensure race registration, and provide accommodation to the runners the night before the race day. In return, the participants raise funds to fund Asha Projects in India for Basic Education.
