Asha India Conference 2008
Asha Chennai hosted the bi-annual Asha India conference in Jan 2008 at Vishnupuram in Thiruvarur Dist. About 40 volunteers of Asha India and project partners attended the conference. While the conference discussed several important issues related to the internal working of Asha India, there were also sessions related to the aims of education, teacher training, educational materials etc. On the third day we also had the time to visit three projects supported by Asha Chennai. It was a pleasure to see the performance of children for the whole day.
Asha Chennai is thankful to the hosts, teachers of George High School as well as locals of Vishnupuram and vicinity for helping us host the conference. Asha Seattle and Chennai have worked with George High School at Vishnupuram and helped them build a new building when some buildings had to be decommisioned following the Kumbakonam fire tragedy. Further Kamakoti a volunteer with Asha Chennai is the correspondent for this school. His family founded and is running the school since 1915 or so. Click here for more details about the project.
