  2. K.Murthy was working at starting the Tamarai and Chembarathi Centres at their original sites, Status of Roja was not sure. The new 4th centre was finding local support with respect to location.
  3. The Build teachers were working with govt. schools nearby.
  4. Fund raising was active- a little over 50% of the requirements($4500)was raised till end Nov 2003 and $651 had reached Varanasi.

Current Status December 2003-

  1. Tamarai has started on 23rd December 2003. Two Build teachers who have been working with the local govt. schools are back in action at the centre. The first day had 15 students. The teachers have also started going to the nearby kilns to announce the starting of the schools. Right now the children are being given milk for the nutrition. Kanji, Sundal… will follow in course of time. The teaching- learning materials saved from the previous season are right now sufficient to run the Centre.
  2. There has been problem for the workers at the Madras brick kiln (Roja) Centre as the payments from the kiln owners are supposedly not received on time. So enmasse the entire group of workers ( who are from one place in Tirunelveli Dist.) have moved to work in another kiln. K. Murthy is working with the possibility of continuing work with these people at the their new work spot.
  3. Work is in progress at starting Chembarathi and the new place. Mr. S. Viswanathan , Asha Chennai volunteer is helping Murthy with the 4th Centre as he is famaliar with that village.
  4. The Build teachers from the govt. schools will come back to open their respective centers as and when they start operating.
  5. Money equivalent of $651 has reached Chennai. $1000 is on its way. It would be available for use at asha Chennai in a couple of months. Project Steward Vijay from Houston and Asst. treasurer Asha Chennai Sudhagar at Sunnyvale are making the routing of funds smoother by the day.
