BackgroundTechnology is an important
aid in achieving large scale impact through education in India. Technology
Assisted Learning (TAL) as the name suggests uses technology as a lever in
the process of education. The problem encountered by many educators
working for under-privileged children is that good educational content is
not available in regional languages. This applies equally well to
books as to multimedia contents that can be delivered through a computer.
Another problem is the cost of such content as is available.
Through this project we hope to address these problems.
In its immediate form this projects aims to develop contents in Tamil that can be used with Tamilnadu State
Board curriculum for all classes. In the future we would also
look at contents that can be used independently by students from rural
India through Internet kiosks like the infrastructure Nlogue is setting
up.
The project would be executed using the
infrastructure and people at Olcott Memorial High School. Project Bridge
would be setting us a multimedia lab at OMHS will 20 computers. These can
be used during the spare time and during after-school hours to create the
content. Asha would fund this by either paying existing teachers an
additional income for creating these lessons or by hiring qualified
educators specially for the purpose of creating these contents.
The contents thus created would be used in all Asha projects (initially
in the projects around Chennai), and be made available to nLogue for use
in their Kiosks.
