All concerned – Re: Project Pride - Report as of April 19, 2004.

Met with Mrs. Margaret , Head Mistress of Urur Kuppam Middle School this afternoon.

The school closed for this academic year on last Saturday, April 17, 2004.

The school infra structure is coming along nicely. A new room for the library and lab and

A new room for the Head Mistress are already in place. What is needed is to fill these rooms with proper equipments of necessity and use. The kitchen needs major overhaul and Mrs. Margret informs me that that work will also be carried out in short order with the help of another donor.

At present there are 271 students enrolled in the school. This is made up of 135 boys and 136 girls. There are 25 students in grade 8 and it is expected that all 25 will pass and move to a near-by Anna school. According to Mrs. Margaret the new entrants for next year will double the students who leave the school and if this is the case the strength of the school for the academic year 2004-2005 will be around 300. I don’t think there is any more room in the school for expansion and this matter will have to be discussed at a later date.

We have already ordered and paid an advace of Rs. 10,000 towards notebooks for next academic year. The text books will be supplied by the Govt. Uniforms will have to be ordered and it is the intention of Mrs. Margret to change the colour of the uniform to red or maroon depending on the availability of cloth. Except for one day in a week the students are expected to wear the Blue and white uniform suggested by the Govt, on other days the new uniform could be worn.

Mrs. Margaret also requests a bell and a clock for the school. Cairn Energy suggests that we should also buy a school bag for every student and I do hope we shall be able to do this. Let me once again share the good news in that the school obtained the licencing

For the building from the Public Building Licencing Office. Incidentally there was wholesale change in the personnel at the office of the Collector and new individuals have taken over and this helped tremendously in making our lives lot easier towards securing the new licence. The licence is only for 300 students and we do sincerely hope as the student strength increases we will not have much of a problem with the licencing authorities in amending the licence for the increased number. The school re-opens after summer recess on June 1, 2004.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Margaret in extending support in our endeavours towards the betterment of the school.
