Gramya

Asha's proceeds from this Notes of Hope concert will support Asha Chicago's Gramya project.

Gramya has been active in one of Uttar Pradesh's most backward area, Naugarh since 1996. The Mooltaya tribals live in this infertile, mountainous area. Here, the literacy rate is a mere 22% and female literacy rate is an appalling 8%. Lack of irrigation along with the infertile soil means very little agriculture. This, in turn means rampant poverty and hunger.

Gramya is working in ten villages in the Naugarh area. In addition to running primary schools for children, they also run women's self-help groups.

Asha Chicago has been working with Gramya since 2001 by supporting some of the non-formal education centers run by Gramya. Asha has committed to fund $11,500 annually to this project and Asha's part of the proceeds and your contributions on the day will go towards reaching that goal.
