About Us

Asha for education is a grassroots level non-profit voluntary organization that believes that we can bring about socio-economic change through the medium of education. Asha was founded by a few graduate students in 1991 at the University of California, Berkley. Since its inception, Asha has grown to 66 chapters worldwide, with 45 based in the United States.

The Asha Cleveland chapter was conceived in 1996 by graduate students of Case Western Reserve University. Currently, we are diverse mix of students and working professionals who are motivated about making a difference in the lives of those who were not awarded with the same opportunities as we were. Asha Cleveland strives to promote education of underprivileged children in India in the following ways

    1. By co-operating and collaborating with groups in India already engaged in these activities
and providing them monetary and material support
    2. By trying to create a cohesive network of these groups so that they can co-operate and benefit
      from each other
    3. By reaching out to the local community to spread awareness about Asha and its goals
    4. By supporting related issues like health and nutrition, women’s health and well-being,
      environment and socio-economic milieu.

Asha Cleveland’s efforts have been supported over the years through generous contributions by our donors. Additionally, we have been instrumental in organizing cultural and fund-raising events like the Russell Peters Show in 2004, the Amjad Ali Khan concert in 2005 and the Bharatnatyam performance, Ekaanth Seetha in 2006, in alliance with the Cleveland Cultural Association.

At Asha Cleveland, we believe that education is an ongoing process. We also believe in giving back to the community that has supported our efforts for so many years. In keeping with these beliefs, we have also been engaged in the following activities

    1. Inviting speakers, local or from India, who have been involved in similar activities, who can
share their experiences, successes and failures with us.
    2. Volunteering for related local activities like fund-raising for public radio
    3. Volunteering for Habitat for Humanity

Asha Cleveland is a dynamic and vibrant group that is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers. So, come join the cause………
