Notes of Hope (September 2005)

Asha Cleveland organized Notes of Hope 2005, Amjad Ali Khan Concert on September 17, 2005 at Cleveland Institute of Music. Maestro Amjad Ali Khan, one of the foremost Sarod players, has carved a niche for himself in the Hall of Fame of Indian classical music. His soulful rendition of complex compositions has won him popular acclaim, endearing him to listeners, both connoisseurs and laymen, and made him immensely identifiable along with his chosen instrument, the Sarod. In this special concert, he was joined by his two sons and disciples, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, who continue the legacy of their forefathers and are acclaimed artists in their own right. There were more than 450 attendees and we raised around $16,000.

Pratibimb (March 2004)

An urban oasis to serve as a living, growing reflection of the culture and heritage of India. Schools to educate children who have been battered, abused, or simply neglected. On the surface, these two causes have nothing in common. But a special group of "Cleveland Indians" took funding these very different goals as an opportunity to present an evening of dance, song, comedy, mime, and feasting to Northeast Ohio. "Pratibimb: A Reflection" gave a decidely Desi accent to the motto "Cleveland Rocks" on Saturday, March 20, 2004 packing a local auditorium with 500+ attendees who applauded, cheered, donated, and left with a new appreciation of Indian talent within the community. Gunjan Again

After the enormous success of the 'Notes of Hope - Fall Series' concert, Gunjan 2001 was organized on November 3 to celebrate Diwali. Very well attended by Indians and non-Indians, the program featured various classical dances of India such as Kathak and Bharatnatyam, as well as Indian "filmi" songs and dances. The "find" of the event was the orchestra -- with melodious voices and instrumentalists. Wait a year, and return to Gunjan for Diwali fun!

Publicity Campaign at the Thyagaraja Aradhana 2001

The Thyagaraja Aradhana music festival was held at the Cleveland State University, Cleveland on April 14th and 15th. We set up an informational poster on Asha on both days. It was an excellent opportunity for us to reach out to a large audience from all over US and Canada. The poster stressed the importance and relevance of the purpose of Asha. Our special thanks to the organizers of the Thyagaraja Aradhana for letting us put up our poster there. We thank all the people who showed interest in our activities. We hope to do this next year as well and continue to make an impact.
