Asha for Education is a voluntary organization acting towards basic education for children in India. At Asha we believe that education is a critical requisite and an effective catalyst for social and economic change.

Our Objective is:

  • To provide financial assistance for basic education to poor and underprivileged children in India.
  • To increase awareness among the local communities and promote the cause of increasing literacy among children.
  • To support and cooperate with persons and groups already engaged in similar activities.

Projects: The Cleveland chapter of Asha for Education currently supports four educational projects in India, disbursing over $35,000 annually, a task that requires volunteer initiatives, support from donors and reception from the community.

Events: This past year, with incessant help from lots of dedicated people, events like The Bollywood Party, An Evening of Hope - with Samarthanam and Sensational Samosa Sales at Wade Oval Wednesdays have been well received.

NOH: Our flagship event this year was the Notes of Hope 2011 featuring the "Celestial Bansuri" by Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, who was accompanied by Pandit Subhankar Banerjee on the Tabla. We had over 350 attendees who enjoyed the musical evening at the Tri-C Metrocampus Auditorium in Cleveland on the 29th of October.

Team Asha: The annual marathon program this year was especially a huge success, where nine passionate runners raised over $10,000!

WAH: The Work An Hour program, which involves a symbolic donation of an hour of your salary, was used to support our project Siragu Montessori School. To read more about the program and the project, click here

ROH: We offer our hearty congratulations to our volunteers Ravi (Bharadwaj) and Ramya for the arrival of their baby.
