Proposal Development Guidelines

(Adopted in 12 July 1999.  Amended and re-approved on 6 February 2002)

We invite project proposals for consideration by any interested individuals, member and non-members alike. Below is a list of guidelines we use in the evaluating and approving projects.

  1. Asha Corvallis strives to work with individuals and grass roots social welfare organizations committed to improving child literacy in rural and urban India.

We work exclusively with individuals and organizations who do not have any political and religious affiliations and who do not discriminate on the basis of caste, creed, religion and sex in the efforts to improve child literacy.

  2. The prospective proposal must outline the objective, a plan of action, area or location, itemized budget details, duration of the project and name of the contact person who will head the project execution.

Also, the proposed project must be managed and sustained by the author(s)of the proposal, with no outside paid help except as pre-approved by the Asha, Corvallis Committee.

The proposal must contain a section on an effective monitoring mechanism that evaluates the success of the project. Some of the suggested monitoring mechanisms include receipts of the items purchased, photographs, newspaper articles and letters from the members of the local community.

  3. We welcome proposals that involve the participation of local community in supporting and implementing the project. The benefits of the projects must be fairly distributed and must be focused to reach a maximum number of children.

  4. We encourage proposals that have a finite lifetime such as a project designed to span a school year that would allow us to see the results at the end of the year.

  5. We require all approved funds to be used in implementing measures and ideas geared towards improving child literacy. We do not support the use of any part of the funds to cover operational or overhead costs of the proposal submitting individual / organization unless otherwise approved by Asha Committee in advance.

  6. We welcome any interested individuals / organizations to submit proposals, which we accept all round the year, to the President of Asha Corvallis. All proposals should bear the name of a contact person who would form the communication link with ASHA, Corvallis.

We encourage prospective proposal authors to get in touch with Asha Corvallis Committee even if a potential project hasn't been fully drafted. We'd be happy to work with prospective volunteers in developing the project. We also encourage the authors to contact the Committee for questions regarding proposal submission.

  7. Upon the receipt of the project, the members of Asha Committee, Corvallis, will initiate the evaluation process, which usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. The ensuing outcome, be it seeking further clarifications or total approval, will be communicated to the designated project leader in a timely fashion.
