  • The Life of Gautama Buddha:

Buddha 2002The Life of Gautama Buddha was a musical theatre presentation directed by Lushin Dubey and Bubbles Sabharwal of Theatreworld, New Delhi. This is a timeless tale in a contemporary setting. It is scripted in English with a touch of India's ancient languages, Sanskrit and Pali. The blend of languages makes it understandable to the audience while still retaining some of the drama's originality.  The music is a fusion of Indian Classical with other western styles while the dance choreography is contemporary. The Life of Gautama Buddha has been staged internationally and opened to full houses.

We had an almost full auditorium and great audience response.

    TT / Carrom Tournament:

Great job by all the volunteers who helped in organizing this event. Special thanks to the Asha-UTD volunteers. We had a good turnout. The participants showed great spirit and of course excellent skill. Ping-Pong semi-finals and finals were a treat to watch, as were the Carrom finals.

    Asha at Anand Bazaar:

We had a great team present spreading the word of Asha activities and its goals. Mid-day as planned, we were joined by Uma, and the UTD student volunteers Karthik, Deepak, Prasad. Akshay (first day) came to the booth to learn more and also pitched in to the on-going activity. Everyone was armed with the Asha flyer/calendar and advertised Asha’s famous mango lassi or cold coffee. The booth also sold Asha merchandise…we had something for everyone!!

Dallas International Festival (Nov 9th and 10th 2002):

It was a fun filled weekend, with Asha booth adding a unique charm to the food court. We had compliments pouring in on Saturday and Sunday for the delicious Indian snacks, tasty chai and the amazing mango lassi. Thanks to Arti and Farida, our booth had some very ethnic look.

Asha generated about $1174.00 from food sales, and $438.00 from donations.
