The Dallas Chapter is excited to announce that it has successfully kicked off a 'kids chapter' recently. Many enthusiastic high school and middle school came to the kick off and were excited about working with Asha. We are planning to help them work on a summer project or a long term project which would eventually benefit poor children in the local community as well as under privileged children in India. Volunteers Deepa Varadarajan, Kavitha Srinivasan, Srikanth Voorakaranam, Vijayashree Venkataraman, Venkat and Ravi Kandikonda introduced the idea of Asha to the kids in the Kickoff.
The Dallas Chapter recently participated in a Clothes Drive. Unused and old clothes were washed and collected from many Asha Dallas' volunteer homes. More than three dozen bags full of clothes, shoes and other items were taken in three cars to the office of the newly opened shelter 'The Bridge'. A couple of residents at the shelter were very enthusiastic and helped us unload the bags from the car into their office. Volunteers Deepa Varadarajan, Kavitha Srinivasan, Srikanth Voorakaranam, Soujanya Voorakaranam, Ramyanshu Datta and Ravi Kandikonda participated in the distribution.
Asha Dallas volunteers pariticpated in the UNICEF run organized at the University of Texas at Arlington. It was a quick 5K run on a beautiful day and in some ways unofficially kick started the Strides of Hope 2008 for the Dallas chapter. Volunteers Viswanath Puttagunta, Divijani Puttagunta, Kavitha Srinivasan, Vibha Chhatwal, Guru Mathur, Prasanth Chintalapalli, Ramyanshu Datta, Ravi Kandikonda and twins Ananya Kandikonda and Aneesha Kandikonda pariticpated in the 5K Run/Walk.
