Who we are:

We are a group of professionals comprised of a core team and in addition, a few volunteers, some of whom live out of state, yet find avenues to contribute towards chapter’s efforts. Like some of you, we are parents and have strong commitments to our family and work. It is our passion and a determination to bring hope in the lives of underprivileged communities that drives our motivation to somehow make the time to work towards this cause. Anyone is welcome to join us!

Background:

Asha-Danbury was launched on Aug 15th 2010, with the following goals:

  • Support Asha for education's vision by having a presence in western Connecticut.
  • Get involved with education initiatives & projects to benefit Danbury schools & the local Danbury community.
It started with a casual discussion on a 'Hindustan Times' article published in May 2010 on hungry children in a village Ganne in India eating mud due to poverty. We talked of ways in which we could make a positive impact in villages such as these. Asha for Education's philosophy of empowering the underprivileged communities with education resonated with us. This formed the beginning of Asha-Danbury. Starting with only two members in July 2010, a month later we doubled our team & presently are a core team that is growing.

What we stand for:

Education is the best form of empowerment that can be given to children to foster self-sufficient, responsible & contributing members of society. The impact of education can last a lifetime and possibly, for generations to come. Children belong in schools and not on streets.
