Meeting minutes Date: 9 March 2008 Volunteers: Ritika, Uday, Shruti, Parul, Rohini, Rekha, D.D.maheswari , Rajiv, Rekha, Sangeeta, Kala, Ravi Agenda: 1. Round of introductions and introduction to projects- Saakshar and Sshristi. 2. Sshristi: There are two centres. A third school has also been started. There are 4 teachers in the third centre and there are two classes. The project is supported by Asha Berkeley. A budget of Rs 7,00,000. Asha Berkeley will be able to support of the half of the project. They will make the effort to get funds from other sources. Meantime Delhi too needs to explore for funds. There are number of questions that Berkeley has asked. URGENTLY NEEDED: Project Steward. Need to confirm with him. Asha Berkeley steward: puneet@ berkeley.edu 3. 10% reservation project: Uday provided a background of the project. More than 600 children have been admitted into the private schools. Ritu provided information about the difficulties faced in the process. This year we set up information and awareness camps in District Education office and metro office. The East and North East districts have been covered extensively. The parents themselves are now helping other parents. However, there are still problems in the departmental level. The schools are still refusing to issue application forms. Ashok Aggrawal, Social Jurists, has filed PILs. A coordination committee has also been decided to be formed. Follow up of the children who have been admitted has not been done. Funding cycle: July to June. The new budget as well as report needs to be send in by May. Follow up will be done: Ritika, Shruti, and Parul. They will get in touch with Ritu and Rajiv. We also need to create awareness about the issue especially that the schools are even refusing to issue application forms. 4. MCD School: As there are more than 1000 children in each school, we should now start working with them. Mobilize the parents to put pressure on the school. 5. Accounting: Impressed accounting approved. To be operated by Rohini. Ankur will be transferred via Vijaya didi. Asha Delhi will not be opened.
