Date: 9th October 2005 Venue: Ravi and Sangeeta's place Volunteers present: Ravi, Rohini, Sangeeta,Pavan, and Sameer Topics Discussed: 1. MPS- Updated MPS. We have currently Rs 4800/- month. With Rs 63,000 transferred from US, we have a total of Rs 1, 23, 000. We also got a Rs 5000/- donation. Ravi suggested that we choose a project to support. 2. Projects Shrishti-Kala did a site visit (for the hobby classes)and will be posting a report. Rohini and Ravi will be doing another site visit (for the morning session) on 24th October, 10 am Concerned Action Now- Rohini did a site visit. One of the major concern is that the overhead expenses in terms of salary for field coordinator and project coordinator is exorbitantly high. The project proposal has been forwarded to Shubh Mangal, who will get it touch with Asha Detroit. Also Pavan said that Seshadri, an ex-volunteer, is with Asha-santa Barbara chapter in US and has requested for a proposal. Asha Ballia- Updated the chapter regarding change in the stewardship of the project. Vijay Bhai is now looking after the project. As the funds requested is small, the chapter has agreed to fund part of it. The decision on how much funds to give this project will be taken once the site visit to Shrishti is compeleted. The Following Items were discussed both at the meeting and over email. 3. Asha Parivar - Rohini and Ravi updated everyone regarding the issue. The following decisions were taken with respect to Asha: The volunteers felt that it was a matter of common courtesy to have informed us about the formation of Asha Parivar Delhi. The volunteers have no problems with the formation of Asha Parivar Delhi as long as the objectives are clearly defined. If Asha Parivar Delhi was formed by Sandeep as an activity separate from Asha for Education/Asha Trust, then the volunteers understand why we were not informed about it. Also under such circumstances the volunteers felt that there was no need for us to be kept informed about their activities. 4. Asha restructuring- The volunteers felt that the decisions should be taken at 6-monthly meetings. It should be one chapter/one vote Each chapter should have the freedom to choose on how to decide on the vote. We should identify issues that we want to work on, with education being the prime focal point. The current Asha Trust lists too many issues. 5. Proposed Asha Split- We ideally prefer a Federal structure where all groups will have the freedom to work on issues they prefer. There should be communication between the various groups. They should respect the principles laid down and any decision to change directions should be taken only at the 6-monthly meeting. However, if it is not possible to have a federal structure, then we accept the idea of separate groups, each with its well-defined goals, and registration. The forthcoming Guntur conference should be used to discuss how and on what basis the separation should occur.
