Update from Danny Kedem, Intern with Asha Delhi- Danny has met with MCD officials and done a comprehensive analysis of how the MCD schools function with respect to administrative matters. he has also visited the model school and a regular MCD schools, talked with the headmasters. He feels that the headmasters are not always aware of how much money is available to them suggesting a lack of coordination between regional, zonal, and school authorities. He has already prepared a document detailing his interactions with the officials and it will uploaded onto to the file section of Asha delhi core yahoogroups. In addition, he has sent this report Asha delhi, Asha delhi core, Asha projects yahoogroups. He will also be preparing a report on his visits to model school and ordinary schools. Further, he would like to work on the 20% reservation clause. 4. 20% reservation in private schools clause- Every school in Delhi has to fulfil the 20% reservation clause irrespective of whether they got the land from the government or not. Danny is involved in preparing a report on the pilot project done by Parivartan in Seemapuri area. 30 students in this area had been accepted into public schools. Initial reports suggest that these children integrated into the school system without much problem and they are doing extremely well. Integration works best if the children are enrolled at nursery level. It is now suggested that we expand this into other areas of Delhi. Danny would like to work on this issue in and around Vasant Kunj area. however, he needs a translator and Ravi will be finding out if a NSS student would like to volunteer for this. Also, we thought we should touch base Vinod who had worked earlier in Vasant Vihar project and find out if he is interested in it. Funds for this project will be provided by Asha Munich. Fund transfer modalities to be worked out by Siva (Asha Bangalore), Ravi( Asha Delhi), Meher(Asha Munich), and Vallabh (Asha kaithi) 5.
