Project GATES

GATES stands for Girls' Access to Education in Science. As the name suggests, the project aims at providing access to Science stream education to girls. The project site is a girls' school located in Salarpur village in Uttar Pradesh. The school provides education only in limited streams like, social sciences, history, geography etc. as these subjects do not require much financial inputs in the form of experimental laboratories and accessories.

The school is not able to provide even basic science education, like elementary Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as these require considerable finances to establish experimental laboratories or rooms, along with basic equipments, like measuring gauges for physics labs, burners in chemistry labs, dissection sets in biology labs, etc. These require reasonable amount of money, which is not possible to generate only through community contributions.

The goal of the project is helping this school in establishing basic infrastructure towards science education by means of experimental laboratories and equipments, so that school is able to impart education in science stream at higher secondary (10th) and senior secondary level (12th). This project was presented to ASML Foundation, ,which is an organisation carrying out several projects in developing countries. ASML Foundation has kindly consented to help Asha Eindhoven financially in this project.
