Dyaan Deep - Gondegaon Madhyamik Vidyalaya

Gondegaon is a small village located in rural area of the Maharashtra state in India. Most of the parents in this remote village are farmers or daily-wage earners. The education level of the villagers is limited to a very elementary level and their economic conditions do not permit them to undertake any further higher education. Most of the children will also not be able to undertake any higher level education if adequate timely help is not provided.   

Gondegaon Madhyamik Vidyalaya is secondary school in Gondegaon village and provides secondary education to 225 children in the age group of 11-16 years. They have 5 teachers working full time for the school and 5 supporting staff. Many of the students also come from the neighboring villages to attend the school. This school is run by Belapur Education Society and is partially funded by the State government of Maharashtra. This partial funding is used to provide salaries for the teachers.

               

 The school also arranges awareness program for the community development on various aspects like social reforms, health, importance of discipline in social life, economic policies of government, agricultural development etc.

Current Situation 

The school has few classrooms made of tin-sheets which makes it an unbearable experience for the students during the hot and humid Indian summers. The school lacks basic infrastructure like the drinking water facility, classroom furniture, library, laboratory for science experiments, staff room and sanitation to name a few.
              

Asha Eindhoven together with Stichting Derde Wereld Fonds Atos Origin had decided to support this school build some basic infrastructure. Three classrooms, each of the dimensions 6.1 x 6.7 m will be constructed. The total construction area is 123 sq. m.  We will provide the drinking water facility, sanitation facilities and upgrade the library and laboratory. 

    

Work in Progress

 After getting the first installment of funds from Asha recently, the school authorities and the villagers have taken up the task of building their school at an amazing pace. Within few days the foundation of the building was ready. They plan to finish the complete construction before the end of school’s summer vacation. The enthusiastic villagers are also contributing to this project by taking care of the labour cost involved. The kids are waiting eagerly for their new school building.
