Project
Utthaan is about providing hearing aids and equipments,
and basic lodging facilities to physically challenged (deaf,
dumb and blind) students of the Alok Swatantra Vidhyalaya (ASV)
School. The school is situated in a remote town of Dhenkanal
in the state of Orissa in east India. Currently this school is
run by a local NGO (Non-Govt Organization) Akshyam Kalyana

Deliverables
Phase-1 (Target: Audio Meter)
|
 |
The Audio
Meter is meant for measuring the hearing loss of the deaf
children. Based on the specification, the appropriate
hearing aid is been recommended for use. This has proved a
very useful aid for the children.
|
Phase-2 (Target: Sleeping Beds for all children)
 |
 |
|
The
children used to sleep on the floor (see in picture:
mosquito net and their belongings) |
Their
happiness cannot be expressed in words once they received
the twin beds. |
Phase-3: Target: Well construction for drinking water,
sanitation and growing vegetables for their own consumption
 |
Within
school premises sufficient land is available for growing
vegetables for their own consumptions. However, the school
is situated in a hilly area and there is scarcity of water
for drinking, sanitation and irrigation. ASHA for
Education has funded the cost of well construction.

of the planned for the construction.
This part
of the project is on-going (Target of completion: Sept
2009)
