North - Quality helpline

East - Empowering the tribals

South - Lead to light

  • Bring disability NGOs together in August for a conference to identify common action agenda - Lakshmi V leading this item
  • Innovate with technology as a lever - eg. teleconsultation via webcams; a breakthrough concept that could help bring children very close to volunteers
  • Bring together 75 NGOs in the Chennai vicinity to reach out to of 40,000 disabled children in the area who are presently not receiving help.

West - Look ahead

  • Increase the pace in development of the blind through modern technology
  • Target income generation for the blind - develop a computer training center for the blind to operate, become employable and productive citizens
  • Work in tribal area of Maharashtra; basic reading and writing in Braille
  • Pick up the pace of development of disabled children, by making available the latest technology.

Centre - Transform with hope

  • Remember and assist those disabled by the gas tragedy that shook the soul of the nation
  • Survey the needs of children in gas affected Bhopal region and support community action to better their lives.

Asha for Education is a non-profit organization dedicated to socio-economic change in India. We believe that education is a critical element of socio-economic change.

In keeping with this focus, our volunteers get involved in identifying, researching, owning, and sustaining projects that target basic education.
