Do you think there is a need for any further laws? Dr. Subbaramaih: The laws are already there. But it is not implemented. The people should be involved. Q: What is the CM doing? Dr. Subbaramaih:He is not doing anything. One time I met with regarding land issue. This is a small issue as compared to the Mathamma. Q: Since many people from the community are involved in this practice, do you have adequate moral support within the community regarding the Mathamma practice? Dr. Subbaramaih: We got support for the land issue, which is a much bigger problem. I am confident that we will be able to do so. Not immediately but some time. It will take some more. Q: You had a pilot project in few villages. Do you want to talk about it? Dr. Subbaramaih: We organized all the villages and formed a village level committee. And we tried to educate the people about this practice. We talked to the families. After through mobilization and sensitzation, some of these villages avoided the first dedication. We also involved the politicians and administrators so that they will make sure that the law is implemented.
