Child Sexual Abuse Aparna, SARC The entire society knows the exact but not willing to understand, pay attention or act. In one case a 9yr old girl ran away from the home because of incest. The girl was sold as a domestic worker but was abused by a 24yr old. She eventually called the childline. We told the police about the girl but the police did not respond. We rescued the girl but she was crying while she was being accused of all sorts of things. In such cases, the biggest problem is nobody trusts the word of the girl. Also thinking about the status, honor of the family, she hesitates. The agressor is therefore able to continue. Any reporting results in additional restraints. Nothing happens to the abuser. Children dont go the police station. As a result the cases are not filed. Nobody knows. And there is no other option. You dont have the authority to enter anybody's home. Girls feels the responsibility for the problem. This fear makes it difficult. She feels responsible for everything. There is also a fear of what will happen to her if she tells anybody. Solution: In schools we orient the girls. Each class has 4-6 sections covering child rights, gender rights and child sexual abuse. We keep them informed with a phone number. Upon gaining confidence, they come forward. The child can over time identify the limits, identity and take defensive actions. A more vocal girls might protect herself. If the family is not supportive, then other options are available. As a result, we started receiving calls. On one day we had 10-12 phone calls. We receive approximately 30-35 phones/month. Forum Against Child Sexual Abuse - a collective of academicians who took responsibility to forge discussions on child sexual abuse. How to empower the mother? Is there something that mother can do?
