Asha for Education is a zero-overhead organization which means that 100% of all donations go directly to our projects in India. As a 501(c)(3), all donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Work An Hour, or WAH, as it is popularly known, is an Asha-wide effort. We ask donors to symbolically contribute one hour of their time towards the cause of children's education by donating an hour's worth of your salary or more. | 2012: Chevron Houston Marathon | |

Asha for Education is thrilled to be an official charity of the 2011-2012 Chevron Houston Marathon. This year marks our third year as an official charity. The 2012 marathon will be held on January 15, 2012. If you are a runner interested in running the full marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles) or the 5K, come and join Team Asha. We will have monthly team runs and get-togethers to keep each other motivated towards our goal of improving education in India! You can also choose to fundraise for any project of your choice. If you would like to support Team Asha in any other way, come and join us! The 2012 lottery registration for the marathon begins June 1, 2011 and extends till June 23, 2011. Click here to register. You also have the opportunity to register with us as a runner through the Heroes program or through the “fundraising for registration” program. For more information on these, please click here. Together, we can train, run and educate thousands of underprivileged children in India! |

| 2011: Lanka - An Epic on Stage | |
|
Asha for Education along with Agni productions hosted “Lanka- An Epic on Stage” on March 27, 2011 at the Cullen theater (Wortham Center) in Houston. This production combined storytelling, dance and martial arts to narrate an epic tale. Lanka, tells the fictional story about what transpires in Lanka after the Ramayana, the great Indian Epic. The presentation was interlaced with contemporary dance and martial arts drawing inspiration from varied influences. The show was enjoyed by theater-lovers! |

| 2011: Chevron Houston Marathon | |
|
Chevron Houston Marathon is Houston’s biggest marathon event. 2011 marked Asha for Education’s second year as an official charity of the Chevron Houston Marathon. Every month from October 2010 until January 2011, runners joined us at the Team Asha training runs at Memorial Park. On the big day, January 30th 2011, Asha volunteers cheered runners and spurred them on at the Team Asha hoopla station. It was terrific even though it was raining intermittently throughout the marathon. Through the fantastic efforts of 40 runners, fundraisers and volunteers, at total of $20,475 was raised for Asha-Houston! For everyone involved in this effort, a thank-you dinner at Mayuri Indian restaurant was held and enjoyed by all. |

Work An Hour, or WAH, as it is popularly known, is a simple concept. We ask donors to symbolically contribute one hour of their time towards the cause of children's education by donating an hour's worth of your salary or more. WAH 2010 began on July 15 and concluded on September 15 spanning through India's Independence Day on August 15 and Teachers' Day in India on September 5. The theme of WAH 2010 was Impetus to Succeed. Houston chapter project SACSAS was selected for WAH funding and through the efforts of many volunteers and kindness of donors, $9000 was raised for this project. This financial support was essential for ensuring the continued education of 165 students studying at two schools run by SACSAS. |

| 2010: Chevron Houston Marathon | |

For the first time, Asha for Education was an official charity of the Chevron Houston Marathon! Volunteers organized training runs and informal get-togethers to meet and encourage runners. In all, there were a total of 35 runners for the full marathon, half-marathon and the 5K run. Thanks to the runners and fundraisers, $20,000 was raised in this first year as an official charity! |

Work An Hour 2009 began on July 15 and concluded on September 15 spanning through India's Independence Day on August 15 and Teachers' Day in India on September 5. The theme of WAH 2009 was Quality of Education. Work An Hour, or WAH, as it is popularly known, is a simple concept. We ask donors to symbolically contribute one hour of their time towards the cause of children's education by donating an hour's worth of your salary or more. Houston chapter project Build was selected for WAH funding and through the efforts of many volunteers and kindness of donors, $14000 was raised for Project Build- to support the school for one year and educate the children of brick kiln workers. |

| 2009: 5K Fun Run | |

Asha for Education (Houston) organized a 5K Run/Walk to create awareness for our education projects in India. It was held on Sunday, April 12th, 2009! We had 31 enthusiastic runners/walkers join us bright and early for a good cause. |

Work An Hour, or WAH, as it is popularly known, is a simple concept. We ask donors to symbolically contribute one hour of their time towards the cause of children's education by donating an hour's worth of your salary or more. WAH 2006 was the ninth edition of Asha's largest worldwide fundraising event. The event began on July 4, the American Independence Day and ended on September 5th, which is celebrated as Teachers' Day in India. Houston chapter project SACSAS was selected for WAH funding and through the efforts of many volunteers and kindness of donors, $5400 was raised for SACSAS and in total WAH 2006 raised $94,271 for 11 educational projects. |

| 2005: Asha Calendar | |
|
The 2005 calendars were designed by Tulika, a Chennai-based group that focuses on designing books for children. The calendar's theme was Asha Children. It consisted of 24 11"x11" pages. Each month has a photo from Asha projects. Quotations from around the world accompany the pictures, and major holidays are featured in every month. All the proceeds from the calendar sales went towards projects supported by Asha Houston. |

Each year volunteers from around the world come together in a show of great human spirit, to help educate underprivileged children in India. Work An Hour, or WAH, as it is popularly known, is a simple concept. We ask you to symbolically contribute one hour of your time towards the cause of children's education by donating an hour's worth of your salary or more. The event symbolically begins on July 4, the American Independence Day, reaches an apex on August 15, the Indian Independence Day, and finally culminates on September 5, which is celebrated as Teachers' Day in India. WAH 2005 raised $97,884 towards 18 Asha for Education projects in India. Thank you to all our donors! |

| 2005: Notes of Hope | |

Asha for Education (Houston) along with AID (Houston) organized a concert called the Notes of Hope featuring the legendary Sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (an honorary citizen of Houston) along with his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash. It was held on Saturday, 10th September 2005, 7pm at the Cullen Performance Hall in the University of Houston Central Campus. Music lovers had an unbelievable evening enchanted by the sounds of the Sarod. Thanks to everyone who was involved with the Notes of Hope! |

| 2004: Asha 5K | |
|
Asha Houston organized a 5K Run/Walk to raise funds for education projects in India. Over 35 participants joined us on Saturday, December 4th! The event was a huge success. Asha Houston raised approximately $11,644.00. We thank all our patrons for their help and generosity. |

| 2004- 2005: Kick-off party | |

Asha for Education (Houston) hosted a party on Sunday, October 17th, 2004 to celebrate what the year’s achievements as well as present an overview of the plans for 2005. The event was hosted to make the community aware of the approved educational projects that were funded in 2004 and also discuss other projects planned for 2005. The event was held at Mediterranean Room at the University of Houston, University Center. Along with free food and drinks, people got an opportunity to learn what Asha is all about. See the flyer. |

| 2003: Art for Kids | |
|
A painting contest was organized for kids with proceeds going towards Asha for education. All art work was judged by three artists and winners also had the opportunity of seeing their work printed in Asha greeting cards! The event was held on 17th November, 2003 at the Durga Temple (13944 Schiller Road, Houston, TX – 77082). About 30 children went about painting their dreams and imaginations. Everyone of them went home happy with certificates, snacks, and prizes! Through this event Asha raised the awareness among the Indian community in Houston about Asha and its principles. | 2002: STRUT Fashion Show | |

Strut was the Indian fashion event of the year that provided the latest fashion from India. Asha - Houston was the benefactor of this event. |

Dr. Sandeep Pandey, one
of the founders and early vounteers of Asha was awarded the 2002 Ramon
Magsaysay award in the 'Emergent Leadership Category' for his work
towards the upliftment of the poor and the underprivileged in India.
