Second Prize at S.P.Jain Managements Institute for Asha Hyderabad
Asha Hyderabad, represented by Srilatha stood second best in the National social impact awards organized by S.P Jain Management institute. The prize included cash of Rs 11000, along with a trophy and a certificate.
This was conducted by S.P. Jain management and research Institute , Mumbai on 25th Jan 2006. About 40 teams (NGOs and Corporates) sent entries across India and 5 teams were selected for the final round.
The 5 finalists were:
- Titan Industries Limited, Bangalore
- Family of Disabled, New Delhi
- Forbes Marshal Group, Pune
- Society for the Promotion of Youth and Masses, New Delhi
- Asha, Hyderabad
Forbes and asha stood first and second respectively. Our topic was "Social impact through Volunteering". While all the projects of Asha Hyderabad were covered, the emphasis was on the concept of volunteering.
The panelists included distinguished people like Kiran Bedi, IPS, Govind Nihlani, Film director along with Head of S.p Jain and a senior executive from Crisil. It was a wonderful opportunity to share our work with wider audience. The general response was positive. NGO's expressed interest in partnering with us and they also invited us to their place.
Some people have expressed interest in becoming volunteers.
Before giving the prize, the judges shared their thoughts about Asha Hyderabad. The positives included
- Clarity in understanding the model
- Principle of maintaining overheads at zero
- Growth shown over the years
However, they were concerned about the growth in volunteers. In order make it sustainable, they felt that we need to add volunteers at a rapid pace. Also, they felt that partnering with local govt is important and we should do that.
