Colors of
India will feature dance performances by four prominent dance
schools from the Kansas City area. These schools are centers of
artistic excellence run by talented and passionate teachers and they
play a key role in promoting Indian arts and culture in Kansas City.
Students from these schools give regular performances at schools and
colleges, ethnic festivals and Indian community functions in the
area and often across the country.
Nartan Academy of Dance: Ritu Daga is the artistic director of Nartan Academy of Dance. She was initiated in dance at the age of 5 under the tutelage of Guru Smita Shastri. She graduated in Bharatnatyam style of dance in 1986 from the Nartan School of Dance, India. After graduation she continued advanced training in Bharatnatyam, Natvangam (art of giving instructional beats on classical dance), Kuchipudi style of classical dance and folk dances from the various regions of India. She started Nartan Academy of Dance in 1998 with the blessing of her guru.
Maithili Parikh is an accomplished performer and teacher of Bharatanatyam. She has been blessed by her father and Guru, Late Shri Nana Kasar in mastering this dance form. Having started early in her childhood, she has performed in major festivals in India and other countries around the world. She has been training young aspirants for over 25 years under the prestigious school Natanam – school for Bhraratanatyam, which was originally founded by her father and Guru in New Delhi, India.
Anjali Tata is a dance artist, choreographer, performer and teacher engaged in the exploration and evolution of Bharata Natyam and Contemporary Indian dance. She has over 22 years training in Bharata Natyam with her Guru Viji Prakash and over 10 years training in Yoga, and Modern dance. Tata is co-founder of Post Natyam Dance Collective and currently teaches dance and Yoga in the Kansas City area.
Nritya School of Dance (Est.1988) is the first Indian dance school to be established in the the Kansas City area. Hema Sharma is the artistic director of Nritya. She was initiated in Bharathanatyam under the tutelage of Kancheepuram Gnanaprakasam and she is well versed in other Indian dance forms such as Kuchipudi, Mohini attam, Kathak and Folk dance. Nritya seeks to foster cross-cultural exchange by providing education, training and arts outreach to promote and preserve the ancient & modern performing arts of India, with a special emphasis on Bharathanatyam.

a platform for all things celebratory. The brainchild of
entrepreneurial couple Shirin and Sanjeev Vinayak, the studio is
NY’s first Indian Couture House nurtured by the creative synergy of
some of India’s greatest talent.

Shehnaai
boasts of the latest collections from a pot-pourri of established
and upcoming designers. While labels such as Ritu Kumar, Satya Paul,
Prriya & Chintan, Amber & Shirrin and Neeta Bhargava adorn the
racks, newcomers such as Saa & She, Zene by Priya and Farzeen and
Sapana Amin are also given a platform. Each of the over 13 designers
has a brand presence in India.
With its
unique product line, personalized service and marketing through the
various Designer Trunk Shows and Fashion Shows hosted by them each
season, the Designer House takes you closer to the Indian Designer
Fashion World without having to cross the seas.
