Asha for Education is a voluntary group of students and professionals committed to improving the lives of underprivileged children in India through education. "Asha", which means "hope" in Hindi, is precisely what we wish to bring into the lives of these children. We believe that any form of development (social, political or national) must start with the proper education of children. Offering them a safe and nurturing environment for acquiring basic literacy and vocational skills is an imperative, not a choice. We raise money through fundraisers to help groups in India that are directly involved in children's education. Contributions made to Asha go entirely to beneficiaries, since we have no overheads. We select projects that show potential for sustainable performance or those using alternative teaching methods. Our projects have no political or religious affiliations and are personally visited on a regular basis. AshaLondon currently supports four projects in India. There are over 30 chapters of Asha all over the world. Visit the main Asha web site for more information about Asha's activities. |
