About the artist:
Irshad Khan represents the eighth generation of musicians in the foremost
musical family in all of India. Over 400 years, each generation of this
family has consistently produced among the best musicians and leading
instrumentalists of India. The family has been acclaimed as the first to
introduce the vocal style on sitar, and are responsible for the evolution
of the instrument in its present form.
 
Irshad made his international debut at the age of 13 at the Queen Elizabeth
Hall in London and has been travelling the world ever since. Mr. Khan has
given recitals all over India, the Middle East, Far East, North America and
Europe.
 
He is the one of the leading sitar artists in the world today. Now based in
Toronto, he teaches and composes music, gives lecture demonstrations and
conducts intensive workshops and master classes at various educational
institutions. He is also a commercial artist whose recordings are sold
around the world.

the WUD Cross Cultures Committee.
