Subject: Indian Movement Primer Document

Hello Everyone,

For those of you who attended Dr. Parmeshwar Rao's talk, this email is
regarding the movement that he initiated in the US, to work towards
development goals in India. After getting his Ph.D in the US, Dr. Rao went
back to India and has spent a lifetime doing what most of us are too afraid
to attempt, believing he can make a difference in where India heads
tomorrow and making that difference. On a recent trip to various US
cities he spoke to diverse audiences trying to reach that idealist within
us that we are frequently too embarassed to admit to being. A national US
movement is being organized right now as a result of his efforts and his
inspiration.

The process is at the point where city representatives need to come
forward to take on organizational responsibilities and spearhead the
movement locally. I will be moving out of Madison after a month so I
cannot be the liasion for Madison. I will be involved with this movement
in my new home however. The information and contacts for the movement
are described in this email and there are two attached files. You can
contact me for any information or to answer any questions you have. I am
sending this to you with the assurance that more than one of you will step
forward to make that difference in all our aspirations and hopes for India
by volunteering for this role.

Folks, we all let off steam about Indians who sit and do nothing about the
appalling state our country is in today. This is our chance to prove we
are prepared to be different. Before we all start digging into our
usual bag of excuses to cloak our inhibitions in, I ask you to just read
the following quote and think about what fears we are willing to beqeath :

			 Cry,
                                 the beloved country,
for the unborn child that is the inheritor of our fear.
Let him not love the earth too deeply.
Let him not laugh too gladly when the water
                           runs through his fingers, nor
                                    stand too silent
when the setting sun makes red the veld with fire.
Let him not be too moved when the birds of his land are singing,
                                              nor
give too much of his heart to a mountain
                                 or a valley. For fear
                                      will rob him of all
if he gives too much . . .

                                               by

Alan Paton, from Cry the Beloved Country

Please, put aside that cynicism and dare to take a risk on your dreams....

Vineeta Yadav

>Hello Everybody,

>Here we go! Finally getting started on our City/Region Wide Coordination

>*	MOVEMENT PRIMER DOCUMENT

>Attached is the Movement Primer (Version 1) document written by the San
>Francisco Bay Area Group Coordinators. We went through several meetings and
>several dozen of emails to finalize the FAQ, Movement Process, Structure
>etc. The meetings ranged from verbal bouts where everybody spoke at the
>same time, to times when no one spoke (everyone laughed out of desperation
>to get something finalized! :-)) and emails starting with genuine requests
>asking the other Coordinators to please, please, please read the contents
>because the enclosed were new insights, not reshuffling of existing
>thoughts!

>So, anyhow we all thought that perhaps our fellow Coordinators might save
>some time if they are able to use this document. Also, if all of us work

>So, if by Sunday night everyone can email us (Poonam and Anu) short emails

>
>1.	Summary of current status of Movement in your area
>2.	Summary of what will be done in the next 7 days
>3.	Questions/Concerns where you would like feedback from the fellow
>City Reps. Please number these as bullet items.
