Subject: [asha-wide] math urls for karnataka text books
dear friends.
this is an unique request from dr.gananath in bangalore who i met
yesterday and
an excellent opportunity for you to contribute.
volunteers at asha and aid boston chapters will remember gananath as
the coord.
of their project with suvidya.
dr.gananath is now the chairman of karnataka state mathematics text
book board
committee. recently he has brought out the 3rd std math text book in
english and kannada
which is high in quality of both content and publication.
his request is that he wants interested volunteers to find out what are
the interesting and
useful websites covering mathematics for the students of class 1st to
10th standard.
here is a couple of sites that i've with me to give you an idea
[
http://tqd.advanced.org/2647
This site for Interactive Mathematics Online contains a number of
activities for exploring algebra, geometry, and chaos.
http://www.mste.uiuc.edu:591/mathed/queryform.html
This site has a database of Internet-based lessons in mathematics. ]
what the volunteer should do is
- identify the webresource and url
- test and work though the quizzes, puzzles, etc.read through articles
available in the website
- describe what each website is about (in one page or less)
- make qualitative judgement on its utility (may be also grade them )
what is needed is not an exhausting collection of all thats there on
the web, rather what
are the good ones, even if its a partial list.
typically after collecting about say 50 sites will be good of which
about 15 will be
finally by the text book review committee.
this info can potentially go into
- karnataka state board 8th standard and above mathematics text books
- indian resource website like ncert, vidyaonline, etc.
- training of teachers and trainers done regularly by suvidya
interested volunteers please contact gananath at the email id
below
suvidya1@vsnl.com
or suvidya@mahiti.org (mahiti server is temperoarily down)
if you are particularly interested in doing the same for other subjects
like physics, chemistry, etc. gananath will put you in touch with the
respective board personnel.
regards.
shanmuga
