Meeting 6th December, 6:30 - 7:45 pm, Union South Attendees: Anita, Charu, Kamal, Subbu, Navin, Manoj, Param, Ravi R, Ravi K, Murali P, Sai, Harit, Sanjay Updates: -> Check for $2400 has been sent to Vivekanda Foundation -> Shikshaniketan and Muskaan need funding. Shikshaniketan can make do with partial funding (complete funding requirements is of the order of $7000) for construction of library-cum-reading room. -> Funds for Muskaan are being raised thru' the Asha Stars initiative. Sanjay is working with Neeraj on this. Asha Stars packets will be mailed out to potential contributors - some of who have expressed interest previously. A meeting has been scheduled for Sunday, 11:30 am do specifically work on this. -> Anita apprised the group of the upcoming (Dec 27-29) Asha conference in India. She'll be attending the conference. The agenda for the conference and the topics that will be addressed during the conference was announced to the group (a mail had been sent to all volunteers prior to the meeting). Volunteers who have further suggestions should email Anita. -> Different Asha chapters (via representatives who will attend the Asha-India conference) will be meeting with Balaji Sampath to discuss the 100-block initiative to effect large scale developmental efforts in the areas of literacy, health, and economic empowerment in upto 100 blocks all over India. Different Asha chapters (including Asha-Madison) are considering supporting this initiative. Since the funding requirements are huge, the specifics of how we go about it is being worked out. -> Asha-Madison will be organizing a video documentary series during Spring 2001. There was discussion about the scope of the documentaries that will be screened. The series has been tentatively titled: "Power to the People" reflecting the theme wherein people rise up to take development in their own hands, and where people have risen up against oppression and injustice to bring about change. A meeting has been scheduled for Sunday afternoon (to continue after the Asha Stars discussion) to narrow down on a set of video documentaries. Sai is leading this effort.
