Asha Meeting, 02/20, Union South.

Chaurasia Concert
*************************
* Ravi K has been (and will continue to be) our contact person and "chief
organizer"
* Concert will be Sep/Oct.
* Expenses: $5000 to paid to artiste (will include a minimum of 2
accompanists).  In addition, travel costs and local organizing costs will
have to be borne by us. Air travel cost will be shared by the 5 chapters
which will organize concerts.  "It will probably cost us around" [edited] $1000
for organization.  Therefore, adding air travel costs, we anticipate $6500
in expenses.  We decided that we need to raise $10K for this concert.
* Focus on corporate sponsors.  We'll make a decision by March 20.
* Many Asha volunteers will be gone in Aug/Sep.  Therefore, we'll need to
start working on this soon.

Action items:
1) All Asha volunteers should try to identify corporate sponsors.  Please
sound them out to see if they might be willing to contribute.
2) Put together a brochure to give the sponsors (modify the one made for
Shoba concert) - Chandru : Send out the one you had for TDS
3) Based on our initial success in identifying sponsors, decide on March 20
whether to go ahead with concert.
4) Email asha-wide and find out how to get sponsors and if there are any
other options?
5)Sanjay : Contact Joe elder for finding contacts in Madison
6)Manoj/Anita : Email the list of sponsors we approached for dance concert

Shoba Natarajan -- a revisit
*************************
* Shoba offered to come back to Madison for an earthquake relief fundraiser,
sometime in April/May.  Decided this was not feasible for 2 reasons: 1) She
was just here, and 2) People have probably already done a lot for the
earthquake, and not feasible to do another fundraiser.

"Spice Week"

Organize a food festival in early summer.  The several Indian restaurants in
Madison can be involved. This has potential and will be explored later.
Should be easy to organize.

Houston Artiste -- AIA organizing a light music concert, and asked for help
*************************
* To be held Mar 24.  Murali is the contact.  Decided that ASHA will offer
to help to 1) Sell tickets (with no guarantees), 2) publicity (email,
posters), and 3) will set up stall.  We will offer this help to try to build
a relationship with AIA.  We will not ask to be listed as a co-sponsor --
will let AIA decide.  This will simply be a good will gesture.

Video Fest

* 5 videos chosen -- Butterfly, Narmada Valley rises, Patha patha akshar
hoga, When women unite, Tu zinda hai.
* Dates of show - Every Thursday, starting Mar 22, for 5 consecutive weeks.
* Venue - Sai is taking care of it.  Sai couldn't be at meeting. Param
reports that he has booked a room in the Memorial Union that can hold 50
people. Sai, please update on the room booking.
* ASM funding ? - Sai, update....

Action items:

1) Movie sequence to be decided
2) Publicity/poster (Plakal, help!!....and Navin volunteers to help Plakal)
3) Video show will be followed by a discussion session with a moderator.
Moderators to be identified. ( What is it that we want here?)
4) Subbu to contact Center for South Asia.
5) Check the videos to be screened at the room in Mem Union
