Sunday 6 Feb 2000 5-7pm, Union South Attendees: Subbu, Param, Ganti, kalyan, Harit, Plakal, Kamal, Neeraj, Murali(p),Charu, Anita Minutes taken by Anita Projects: Little Stars:- Nilesh from Asha-Seattle is the steward for Little stars. All the papers regarding asha stars to be sent to him after retaining a copy with us. The school has finally acquired the land in its name. This project has been ruled out for Asha stars.Enough funds for this year been sent out. So no review. Serve:-Kamal is the steward. has 5 phases. The first phase is establishing an assessment and counseling wing and a Therapuetuc wing. Neeraj's concern was that it might now be directly related to education. So Kamal would be enquiring about the details of it. A german NGO has also committed to raise funds. But how much is not clear. Kamal suggested that we submit the project for WAH.However we still continue to consider it for Asha stars. ISDGEI: Ganti is the steward. Update from someone who visited the project. The school has till 7th class. Encourages education for girl children. Trying to establish a corpus fund. Ganti has posted questions to the person who visited the project. Sridhar who is the main person for the project is going to retire in a few years and a Professor from University of Kolhapur is going to take over the project. This is a concern as the new person does not have any experience. Another concern is the impact that the project has had in its last 7 years. They have been supported by CRY all along. So they have not had any income generation apart from that. Subbu and Murali suggested that if someone from Asha India visits the project we might get a better idea of the impact the project has had so far. This will be reviewed after we get the report. Asha MSU is considering funding around 500-1000$ for the project. Interact:Iyengar is the steward. This project is closed for review after the last project meeting. Guldasta: Param is the steward. Project is closed. No funding. GIRD: Iyengar is the steward. Akhil Gramin Vikas Samiti: Kamal is reviewing the proposal. Asha stars: Right now SERVE is being considered. Murali proposed that we have 2-3 projects ready for Asha stars so that people can decide which project they want to support. But Neeraj's concern was.. That way the funds would not be concentrated for just one project. Project group meeting: Saturday 12th, 10:30 am -1pm. review ISDGEI, SERVE, GIRD. Kamal will book the room. New proposals which are open can also be considered. All information about GIRD and other project available on project egroup vault. Subbu shall post additional site visit reports also on the vault. everyone attending the meeting.. please read the info about GIRD. AIA Meeting: Murali and Neeraj had been to the last AIA meeting(about 2 weeks back). large interest by AIA to do some charity. We must arrange for a AIA-Asha meeting instead of attending the general committee meeting. Fundraising:- Global rhythms update by Charu. Murali and Neeraj suggested that we call the people involved instead of emailing them. Anita agreed to do it. Meanwhile a plan has to be chalked out for a collaboration with the AIA'S April concert. Hirak Basu to be contacted for that. The fundraising group must meet soon and decide about the plan of action. Also talk to Vidhi, Ganti and Iyengar who helped organise the TM Krishna concert. Go to the AIA meeting so that we can negotiate. Ideas on what we can do for the concert: help at the Venue, Ticket sales, publicity, getting ads from the shops for the brochure. ISA meeting: Charu attended the meeting. And they have India day( I am not sure if that is it, I think I missed what it was...!) on April 9th. The ISA agreed to Asha having a stall and presentations.Charu will attend the ISA board meeting for further negotiations. 6-9pm, Thursday, Feb 10th Student Organisation fair. Param, Harit, Plakal,Charu, Kamal,Subbu,Anita volnuteered to be there. Calendars, Mugs and Shirts orders taken. Shifts and arrangement to be worked out on email.... Monthly contributions: Finally decided to send the asha-wide newsletter and a donation slip to people who have agreed to give monthly contributions( via the newsletter donation replies) and a few people who Murali(r) knows. Murali( R) will take care of this. Also send a donation slip whenever we send receipts to the people. Anita will take care of this. Minutes of Khandala meeting: Subbu will send it to everybody or whoever wants to read it. Also he has some copies of Bapu Kuti for sale for 6$. Petition to congressman Gary Ackerman being sent, in connection with Union carbide incident. Interested people can sign it after reading it. Contact Subbu. Asha Wide update: *Fellowship being considered to identify and support people doing social work in India. Already a few people like sandeep, Arundhati are being supported by individuals, but it has to be made more official. Disccusions going on. Formulate a petition for 83th Amendment to make education a fundamental right. Ended with a "heated" discussion about system at education in INDIA........
