India Nite (April 22) organized by ISA:
-> We can set up a table with posters and flyers.

Anita updated us on the Cheelghat proposal
-> There is a proposal for a school for children of 4-5 villages in the
   Cheelghat area of MP.  The work is being done by Ekta Parishad which
   is also working on the "Bhoo Adhikar" campaign.  The current status is
   that we have gone thru' an initial pass over the project and have a list
   of questions that we need answers for before proceeding.

Venki updated us on the GIRD proposal
-> GIRD (Gandhian Institute for Rural Development) in Manipur is working for
   rural development in Manipur.  Education is one component of the project.
   Right now, we are pretty much in favour of supporting this project.  We
   are awaiting some final information from Sandeep Pandey and Mahesh before
   making a decision.

Fundraising
-> Anita updated the group on the possibility of a Shobha Natarajan
    dance concert.  Shobha Natarajan has been contacted for a possible
    Kuchipudi performance in 2nd/3rd week of September.  Right now, the
    only thing holding us is a dance hall.  We have to wait till the end
    of May before some of the performance halls even consider reservations
    from us for a performance in December.

Narmada Candlelight vigil on Monday, March 14th on Library Mall
-> On the occasion of International River Action day (March 14th), the Madison
    Friends of the Narmada Collective, Chingari, and some other groups will
    be organizing a candle light vigil.  This vigil hopes to focus attention
    on the issues in the Narmada Valley as well as express solidarity with
    the people who are part of the struggle.  More information will follow in
    a separate posting.


Action items:

(a) Manoj will be working on publicity (posters) for India Nite
(b) Anita will work on contacting the dance dept. about the dance concert.
    She will also be in touch with Shobha
(c) Murali (R) will start working on the sponsorships for the concert.
(d) Murali (R) will be preparing a cover letter to be sent out to potential
    donors in an attempt to start off a regular (monthly or some periodic)
    contribution from them.  Param will help in preparing the donor database.
(e) Venki (I) will be following up on the GIRD proposal.  He will be
    contacting Ragini Ben to get the rest of the info that we are looking for.
(f) Anita will follow up with the Cheelghat proposal (she will be in touch
    with Sandeep Pandey and others).
