Date: 11th April 2002, 6:30pm Venue: Union South Present: Param, Sai, Sanjay, Manoj, Priyanka, Srinivas, Subbu, Ravi R, Ashutosh, Ritu - Feedback on the Sangam concert of April 6th - Good revenue, approx $1700 profit (final accounts to be done), but the breakup is around $1800 in ticket sales, $530 in sponsorships, $500-600 expenses (venue rental, publicity, misc). Kudos to the volunteer team (especially Mekhala, Priyanka, Siddharth, Ritu, Srinivas, Prabhu, Zeena, Vidya and others) for a great job in selling tickets, pulling in the sponsorships, and getting work done on D-Day. - A large number of people turned up, not sure if due to media publicity or word-of-mouth - Need to give thank-you letters and brochures to sponsors. Will be printed and brought to the next meeting. - Some additions to be made to our concert organization cheat-sheet: - Check sound system (Music Hall only had a PA system) and do a rehearsal with sound and lights before the show - More sponsors to check for next time (said no this time, but did ask to be looked up next time): Magic Mill, Whole Foods, Home Beauty Parlor (West side, Priyanka knows) - Accompanying music can be sold, some audience members asked for it at Sangam - Use coupons from sponsors in brochures (did this with Muddy Waters in 2000) - Projects: - Need to get moving, Sanjay (Project Co-ordinator) said that he has assigned each project to someone in the projects sub-group and will follow-up with the assignees. - The new Project Proposal Management System (http://www.ashanet.org/berkeley/ppms/) is a central repository of all of Asha's funded projects as well as all incoming new proposals. Projects group will look here for interesting things to pick up. - Awareness: - As part of the ongoing Center for South Asia's Symposium, Anand Patwardhan is coming to town on April 20, he will be talking about the nuclear issue and his new movie, Jang aur Amman, will be screened. - Sai has been in touch with Rachel Weiss to see if Asha can meet with Anand P separately. It is possible that he will be in town on April 21 (Sunday). Sai and Manoj will follow-up with Rachel Weiss. - Sai proposed that we continue the discussions series and communalism/riots would be an interesting topic. A vigorous discussion followed on whether a discussion on this topic would be fruitful and what we could meaningfully talk about. Some ideas: - Gather news reports from several sources, and present a summary of the facts known so far. - Pick roles (political parties, rioters etc) and do role-playing to gain better insights into the positions and philosophies of the conflicting parties. The conclusion was that the topic certainly seemed one that could generate discussion, though we have to be careful that we discuss and not attack each other.
