Minutes of the Asha meeting. 6/2/98

Attendees : murali,vidya,sharmila, (sharmila's mom), muthu,
sastry,vidhi,vinod, vineeta

1. Asha Hour (14th Aug '98 :  9.00 to 10.00 am): The idea to donate the
equivalent of
one hour of you income to the cause of basic literacy in India.
    Issues:
    - can people work instead of donating money
    - Outreach activity (Spread info about Asha's activities)
    - Do research about illiteracy, education and other similar topics.
Spend time in a library and
        compile information / statistics.
    - Couple the promotion of Asha Hour with AT&T
    - Children can write letters to kids in India in projects funded by
Asha
    - Get information on how we can get children in Madison schools
involved in this project.
    - Contact ISA, Church groups and other activity groups.
    - Advertise this at the Memorial union and the farmers market.
    *** We need more ideas on this. So please let us know.

2. Shankar will be contacting Rajan Seth regarding culinary fund raising

ideas. Vidhi will give him the tel#

3. Vidya will collect the money from Himalchuli ($50.00)

4. Murali will be the point man collecting information about Asha
Madison activity and
forwarding it for the US-wide Asha newsletter.

4. Vineeta suggested setting up a table at the upcoming South Asia Film
series.

5. Sharmila showed us the write up / info that she had obtained from
EOTO. It was felt the
children supported were on the richer side. Sharmila will contact ?? to
get further information

6. Sastry was proposed to be the new President and Sharmila was proposed
for the post
of Treasurer. Our sincere Thanks to both of them on agreeing to take up
these positions of
responsibility.
