Asha Meeting Aug 19, 1999 6:00 p.m. Union South Attendees: Arun, Kamal, Murali P., Murali R., Param, Vidhi, Vineeta Minutes: 1. It was decided that Asha Deep's next edition should be released by September first week. This would be in time for future events in September viz. Student Organization Fair (8/7), Kick-off Meeting (9/9), Carnatic vocal concert organized by AIA (9/9), India Day function in Library Mall (9/11). Arun and Param volunteered to help in writing the newsletter. The following would be included in the newsletter: Work-An-Hour '99 Asha-Madison Open House A project spotlight A write-up by Vidhi on her recent visit to India where she met people from other developmental organiztions. 2. To cover the newsletter cost, Murali P. suggested contacting a new Indian restaurant for sponsorship. To cover other such administrative costs we needed an alternative source of funds since funds from donors are used only towards projects. Arun suggested linking our homepage to advertisers' pages. Vineeta suggested screening a movie as a fundraiser for administrative costs. Murali R. and Vidhi will compile a list of working Indians and contact them if they would be interested in watching a hindi film or a cricket video. Accordingly an event will be planned for later in the Fall. Murali P. suggested opening of a joint bank account in Madison from where we could fund administrative costs. Param said he would enquire about the legalities of opening a bank account and enquire how other chapters source administrative expenses. A decision would be taken after this. 3. For the kick-off meeting Vidhi suggested having free food for the attendees to draw more people. There would be Asha stalls in the student organization fair, AIA concert and on India Day. There would be information about Asha, merchandise, sign-up sheets.
