Attendees: Sastry, Murali, Vidhi, Vidya, Shoeb Asha Hour Money : ----------------- - It was decided to wait for a bigger quorum before making decisions on this issue. - However, certain concerns were voiced : -> Have to get more details about the project that will be receive the Asha Hour funds. -> The event has been marketed by telling people of the Swanirvar project So, is it a good idea to divert funds to some other project? -> It is harder to collect funds in a place like Madison which is largely dominated by the student population (unlike places like LA, Boston, etc.) Considering that we have committed ourselves to Swanirvar, it makes sense to continue funding the project for some time. Given that fundraising is a hard task in Madison, it may not be a good idea giving out all the Asha-Hour funds raised here to the general pool. Table at Farmers' Market on 29th Aug (Saturday): ------------------------------------------------ - Have to set up a Table at Farmers' Market this Saturday between 8 am and 12 noon. Sastry and Vidya will be setting up the table. *MORE* volunteers needed. - Poster: Will use the same poster as last time after editing it suitably. Stall on India Day (Sept. 12th) : --------------------------------- - Will set up a stall on India Festival Day organized by AIA. - Have to prepare a new poster for the occasion (brainstorming and volunteers needed). The plan is to make a poster that can be used for all such occasions rather than making a new one each time. - On that day, will sell Asha T-shirts and put up pamphlets as usual. - There were suggestions to organize games/raffles to attract attention and/or collect funds. Have to brainstorm more on this. Making of the Mahatma : ----------------------- - There was renewed debate as to whether we could use "M.O.T.M" as a fundraising event. - It was decided to do some form of a preliminary study where we can find out how many people (working people, students) would watch the movie if tickets were priced at $10, $5. Shoeb volunteered to do some of this work. - The other issue raised was of screening the movie on-campus/off-campus. Off-campus, we might get bigger movie halls (and *might* be able to rent them cheaper). But, problem of conveyance. On-campus, movie halls are relatively small. - In any case, need to decide on this in the next meeting. - If we decide not to use it as a fundraising event, can obtain UW funds (with help from the IGSA) and screen it as a free movie. Other Stuff: ----------- - Shoeb suggested that we could exchange some of our T-shirts with other Asha chapters (because we have been selling the same design for quite some time now). - Asha-Madison web page work is still on the backburner.
